"May I see your ID?" and "Ok, now I'm calling your office to check" is something I've wondered at.
Telling a fake Driver's License is a skill far, FAR more people have than "Telling a fake cop card". And, even with a real card, their responses should be pretty telling.
They are as far as I'm concerned. Asking means you(r lawyer) can whine about not getting it later. It isn't like "May I see your ID?" is giving them any assistance.
"Do you have a warrant?"
"No"
"Have a good day, sir"
Don't be an asshole and give them a "reason" to arrest you.
