EDIT: figured out how to swipe to go back. Nice. Maybe the problem is I’m using an iPhone 6s..

You’re not alone. The back arrow that used to appear on my iPhone when you finished viewing comments and scrolled down disappeared, too. Took me a while to figure out how to swipe to go back to the posts.
