Don't really want to get into it because I know how quickly things can turn bad, but there's gotta be a better way of handling situations like this. Dude wasn't armed and didn't appear to be any kind of physical threat to the women, just having an episode. Wait for backup if you can't handle 1 guy.
Which brings me back to my point that charging the police shouldn’t be an automatic death sentence. I get they have a dangerous job and need to make split second decisions, but they also willingly signed up for it, and theoretically have been trained to handle these types of situations. Point being, getting physical sometimes is part of the job description and always has been. The idea you can control everyone that’s belligerent with a taser, and if not just shoot them is bad policing.
Family called and asked for a mental health officer, they didn't have any available so they sent a normal officer. He was let into the house by the family and tried to talk with him but he soon felt he needed to leave to deescalate things and called in for backup. About 90 seconds after he left the house is when this video starts.
The previous day two mental health officers were called to the same house and he went peacefully with them, who knows if it would have gone the same way this time or not.

Tough situation there for the cop. The guy was obviously having a mental episode, but it looks like he is charging the cop. He has erratic movements, it seems like the cop was in the right.
Don't fault the cop at all but it's a shame he had to die for what clearly seemed like a mental breakdown episode. I always wonder if there weren't better options like getting the family out and safe and letting him calm down indoors before trying to apprehend.

The police officer was waiting for backup, until the guy came out and charged him. Then the officer used the taser instead of a gun--more than once.
Also, who called the police? Was it the woman inside the house? He wasn't just "having an episode," he was a danger to them and the officer.
