Yeah, covering your camera can damage your laptop if you use something thick and hard to cover it then slam the lid down without removing it.
That said, Lets be real - people are covering their cameras with post-it notes and the like which will cause no issue.
Use a Post It note, cut down to a small square you can remove and re-stick. I did this for years.
