I'm all for pro life and avoiding abortions. But genetic defects will negatively impact the childs life, make them eternally dependent, and die sooner. + fuck up the parents life. This is one of the few times i think abortion is OK. especially if you can diagnose it very early via amniotic fluid that shows a 3rd chromosome.
TLDR. Pro life, but not pro retardation. No one benefits from having retarded kids. the kids dont, and the parents dont, and society doesnt.
Both my parents are doctors, and we know several people that have children with either down-syndrome or other serious issues.
These peoples parents are now fucked, they are poor due to the high cost and maintenance of the child, constantly stressed and tired. Have no social life or go on holidays due to the childs behavior and needs/cost. And its not like a baby, or a regular child which eventually grows up, becomes more reasonable or supports itself. It is high cost, and high maintenance its entire life, and then dies early.
One of the families we know, their severely disabled kid eventually died at age 23 or 24, and while they were heartbroken, they did say that they now could finally live a normal life again, not to mention give more attention and care to their other, younger child that isnt disabled, but was always neglected because of his disabled brother's needs. That kid only got to have his first slumber party / friends over at age 12 or something.
