I KNOW NOTHING

I don't think the America First people of today are anything like the Know-Nothings, nor were the issues of that time anything like the ones of today.

Depends on if you believe the propaganda or the reality. Victors write the history. Were the know nothings wrong? The Vatican ended up stealing America after all.

The Know Nothings thought anyone who was not of British origin should not be allowed into the country -- that included the Irish (yes, Catholic) and the Germans (quite a few of whom are definitely not Catholic). If they had had their way, most of the people on this site wouldn't be American.

As for the Vatican "stealing America"...considering our current policies and social behavior, I find that rather doubtful. For one thing, our divorce and abortion rates would be far lower.

*I should like to add: considering some of the political agenda of the antebellum KNs, their closest kin in the politics of today (which I don't like to do by the way, as it is very hard to fit a 19th century model into the 21st, but oh well, I'll go there) are....the progressives. I would consider them closer to Bernie Sanders of the 2016 election (when he thought he didn't have to hide his ideas and kiss ass so much) than Donald Trump at any time.

Read this and tell me if you still think it's doubtful.

I read it...and I think perhaps one should have a very firm grounding in history before attempting in-depth study of some... theories.

PS. the "Holy Roman Emperor" (who was one of the German prince-electors, voted upon by his peers and would be more accurately termed something like "Konig der Romer")...I highly doubt that George would have gotten that, even if he did have the Saxe-Coberg connection) pretty much was gone after the death of Berengar the First, in 924 (long time before America even was a thing).

And by the by...if what you are attesting to is true....then you probably shouldn't be on a site that supports President Trump...his father's fam does have roots in the Palatinate after all; his mother's fam could be stealth Jacobites after all. Hmmmm!

Times change. Yes the KN weren't perfect. But Im as nativist as it comes regarding illegal immigration. Build the wall baby, build it high!

The Know Nothings were against legal immigration. I should emphasize the word "legal". That is a rather key difference.

And the Know Nothings passed key legislation in the New England states that made it easier for women to obtain a divorce and for mandatory vaccinations and for greater public education expenditure...which I find hilarious that such a group are so popular among some at such place like this, but the world is a funny place.

Again, times change. I think we need a modern nativist moment. MAGA

Who would be the natives? There is quite a big difference between a sensible immigration policy directed at allowing the immigration of people who would become loyal Americans and anything the Know Nothings proposed. I would argue that some of our natives aren't very good Americans, and perhaps we should send them off to somewhere more in keeping with their ideological views. MAGA
