"Racist" can be used to to describe someone who separates people into ethnic groups compared to someone who tries to be "colorblind" and think of everyone as part of the same tribe.
"Racist" can also be used to mean someone who holds a hatred of a specific group of people based on their ethnicity.

I agree. Which is why I always make the person who causes the term be precise in their language. We can fight it by demanding precision in speech.
