As a former leftie, it’s amazing how accurate this is. On the left it’s constantly reinforced that you’re not only correct about everything cultural and political, you’re virtuously correct. Meaning everything you believe has such a net benefit to society that only a moron would be against it, which is why they treat us all like morons.
The thought that you could be wrong never enters your mind, and evidence that proves you’re wrong is either from a “non-credible source” or simply fake. They won’t even consider it.
That’s also why getting proven wrong, and internalizing it, is usually the first step toward walking away from the left. They have to be open to that possibility before any progress can be made.
That's why lefties are successful and until the right can make it comfortable to be on the right, and uncomfortable to be on the left, the vast majority will stick to what is comfortable.
So on a personal note the ability to recognise that you were wrong is admirable.
On a political note it is more important to make your supporters believe that they're right, than to actually be right.
