Not a Bill Gates fan but it seems obvious to me that he is protecting his money by Investing it in land, money is fiat, it could be gone and worthless tomorrow, billionaires understand this and invest their money in everything safe that they can.
if it was all in one state with contiguous border, that'd be one thing, but when SHTF, there's no way he'd be able to defend this swiss cheese. he knows damn fucking well the USD is going to collapse in value. he's hedging into farmland in the meantime.
