There are ATMs (or at least used to be), and you can buy it for cash on the darknet.

You can also launder bitcoin, where you send btc to a mixer, and get random amounts adding up to nearly what you sent from several other accounts - this breaks the tracking. Assuming the mixer isn't compromised. A similar version of this uses online casinos to decouple your tracked bitcoins from your known wallet to an anonymous wallet.

But you need to keep your laundered bitcoins completely separate from your personally-ID'd bitcoins, and you need to be careful with your laundered bitcoins. It's a huge PITA and not really worth it unless you're buying drugs on the darkweb - but if you look up tutorials provided by darkweb dealers for buyers they'll walk you through all of this. Intellectually, I find it all fascinating.

There's a podcast I subscribed to called Darknet Diaries and they interview a bunch of people who ran online drug rings on the dark net and made money through bitcoin and the operation became fairly sophisticated.

The guy eventually got caught but only because of a snitch, not because of dealing in crypto or not covering his tracks well. I think it was episode #81. darknetdiaries.com

I also explore lots of survivalist and prepper communities and get some of my information from those sites.
