I've been in IT for a decade and on / off with Linux for much of that time. I don't know how your basic person would "really" survive on even ubuntu day to day.
I can set it up for someone and they can do the basic install / uninstall. But it's like taking 15 years back to Vista with "ease of use". I'm all ubuntu now with exception of very specific windows only tools that I can't wine.
