9mm is what I always recommend. If the shit hits the fan much of law enforcement and military and government agencies use 9mm (lot .40 now though too) but that way the ammo lying around will fit your weapon.

9mm. With modern HPs there’s no stopping power difference and the extra velocity of 9mm means more energy to the target. Also 9mm gun will weigh less and same amount of ammo will weigh almost half as much. Additionally, magazine capacity for 9mm is usually about 150% of a 45

9mm - cost, accuracy, rapid fire target reacquisition and the mags you pickup will fit your gun :)

9mm for sure. Obviously there is an ammo shortage but 9mm is way cheaper, 9mm probably the cheapest next to .22 lr.

Any handgun will do. Look at availability of ammo along with price. Ammo is going to be harder to find so if its scarce now you know the thing.

It should be whichever one you're more comfortable with shooting. Most gun ranges rent guns for a few bucks per hour. Select a few different ones, in different calibers, and run a couple boxes of ammo through each.

.40 cal is the way to go. Stopping power of a 45 but not the recoil
