The tricky part of that is the Senate can make up whatever rules it wants, and the rules are determined by a majority vote. That basically means Democrats can do whatever they want.

The only reason they haven't repealed the filibuster is that there are a few D holdouts refusing.

True, they do as they please. But SCOTUS is supposed to check them, and they would have to void the impeachment as it was done according to their arbitrary rules, going directly against the constitution. I don’t know how the fuck you would litigate when Congress and the Chief Justice of SCOTUS are both party to violating the constitution.

Theoretically, Congress can impeach anyone, even someone not currently holding an elected office or working for the Federal Government.

Congress could, if they wanted, impeach and convict me, and then I would be ineligible to run for a Federal office or work for the Federal government.

That's the whole point of this process. Trump would be ineligible to run in 2024, which is why 17 Republicans are going to vote against him.

Exactly, but if Robert’s is supposed to preside, then Trump has a real case in court. The problem is that Trump would have to sue Robert’s and Congress. The only court high enough to hear such a case is SCOTUS, but how could Robert’s preside over his own trial? For that reason, I don’t think Trump has a chance litigating against this.
