I always laugh at that. I looked at the voting in the rural Rep countries in the north where the Rep party started and most have been voting Rep since Lincoln. The cities with manufacturing imported a lot of southern Dems a hundred years ago and are finally starting to switch to Rep because of Trump. The Reps up north haven't gone anywhere, they just got overtaken by Dem voting newcomers from the south and immigrants.
