That was pure CYA on that agent's part. He knew going anywhere near that laptop was career suicide. He knew he'd be in barrel from the PTB if he even opened a case file. He knew the self-preservation move was to get it the hell out of his office.

It's pure cowardice, but what do you expect with what we now know of how the system really works, and how much power and money and influence the Big Guy has in that state?

Nothing new, either. I remember reading a quote from a cop who'd worked in NYC, and looked the other way with anything involving UN reps - something like "If I tried to do anything, I'll be on meter maid patrol tomorrow."

Politicians operate fearlessly, because they know they can destroy anyone who tries to do anything about it, especially at low levels.

It's an interesting point. A more loyal FBI agent would have just lost the thing and denied it ever existed.

Was thinking the same thing. And the “lawyer up” advice was because he knew they’d be targeted by someone even if it wasn’t him.
