Most of the French in 1939-40 were pro-Hitler and very supportive of national socialism. It is revisionism to claim that most French were against the Nazis and Vichy French. Only about 10% of the French were Free French prior to D-day 1944. They were more than happy to be part of the Axis and pro-Hitler. If 25% of the French had been anti-Hitler or anti-Petain from 1939-1944 then France would have been liberated long before 1944.
