A women walks into a bar and notices a frog in a cage behind the bar. She asks the bartender about it and the bartender says this frog performs oral sex on women. It's normalcy bias. People who aren't engaged don't realize that all of this "reality" they are walking around in was constructed for them, it didn't just appear. When you've been in the habit for 30 years of passively accepting whatever "news" fits your bias, unflinchingly, without study, well...how would you see your way out? A certain segment of the populous is not very bright, and an even larger segment is criminally incurious about anything serious.
