The problem with private prisons is potential fraud. They advocate for more strict sentences for bullshit crimes. Because the more people in prison, the more money they make. Look at the PA. judge kids for cash case. they end up costing the tax payers a lot more.
I'd have to know their real reasons are for taking this action. Democrats never do something just because it's good policy. There is always a financial kickback, campaign funding payback, stock short (you can purchase stock in companies that specialize in running private prisons), a scheme to force criminal illegal aliens to be released due to prison space shortages, etc., some angle we aren't seeing.
Because private prisons need bodies to fill the cells.
They are paid by the state for how many prisoners they have. A full prison makes more money than one half full. So the prison industrial complex lobbies for making it easier to send people to jail. Either through legislation, or funding election campaigns for DAs, judges, sherrifs, etc that are friendly to their cause.
Private prisons livelihood is having people in jail.

At surface value it is good.
But like all things uniparty, names are deceiving. Case in point Patriot Act.
Someone would have to dive into the fine print to know if good, bad, or indifferent.
Private industry has no business administering the deprivation of freedom of individuals. That power should lie solely with the government.

I'd say even a blind squirrel can find a nut/ A broken clock is still right twice a day.
As some have pointed out, there's probably an angle we aren't seeing.
Off the top of my head: Less prisons might mean less room for prisoners means more criminals on the streets means more BLM recruits. (Speculation)
Seems good on surface, but there's probably something more.
turn em into homeless shelters
