Mozilla is shit, but brave is spyware. Firefox is too, but its spyware can at least be disabled by a power user.

Would explain why brave is slow as shit

the_archivist 1 point ago +1 / -0

Granted, the only browsers that site considers not spyware are borderline unusable.

The internet is designed to require spyware to operate.

Why, I like Firefox, and chrome is google

7
smartass 7 points ago +7 / -0

Never use Chrome! Google is the devil

Core2029 4 points ago +4 / -0

Chrome is open source. Brave uses the Chromium codebase and adds their idea of monetization. Dissenter (GAB), uses the Brave open source code-base and strips away the monetization. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Use Dissenter.

SoldierofKek 2 points ago +2 / -0

Chrome is NOT open source! It's a proprietary version of Chromium.

2
Core2029 2 points ago +2 / -0

I meant Chromium. My bad.

1
smartass 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm using Dissenter right now but the problem is that they are very slow to release updates which creates a security risk. For example, the Mac version was last updated in March 2020!

Not saying you're lying but are there any articles or something out there that prove this? All I found was this:

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/privacy/faq/#:~:text=Mozilla%20doesn't%20sell%20data,t%20buy%20data%20about%20you.&text=Mozilla%20does%20collect%20a%20limited,your%20name%20or%20email%20address.

"It seems like every company on the web is buying and selling my data. You’re probably no different.

Mozilla doesn’t sell data about you, and we don’t buy data about you."

https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/firefox.html

Can be disabled by a poweruser.

The main issue with firefox is mozilla - a stereotypical woke shithole. Unfortunately, letting firefox die would consign the entire world to the chromium engine which would be far worse for privacy.

Thanks for that.

When I installed it I went through about:config myself to remove references to Mozilla services, disabled those bundled add-ons like pocket and the screenshot tool, and telemetry and health report type stuff too but I bet I missed a lot.

Will go through this because fuck Google. There needs to be a completely separate competitor to Google- one that also isn't a fork of Chromium.

https://www.theregister.com/2020/08/14/mozilla_google_search/

Just the above I dont trust it. Even if you switch to another search, inking deals with one of the top 2 most tyrannical companies is insane.

unclebobinator 1 point ago +1 / -0

That article just tells me Google paid Mozilla to be the default search engine. Nothing about selling data or things like that.

The other guy posted a better article in his reply, but it also had steps you could take to disable it sending such data.

Perhaps using Brave would be better but I'm honestly not that concerned.

Yeah you're right. Thanks for setting me straight.

Do you like a browser that intends to program their browser to censor conservatives?

0
BasedBurckhardt 0 points ago +1 / -1

The Mozilla Foundation has publicly called for even harsher online censorship of wrongthinkers.

Opera is now a CCP-owned chromium fork.

Vivaldi is what the original Opera became.

1
b667 1 point ago +1 / -0

I personally use Vivaldi, but it's far from perfect. And on top of that it's chromium based too.

2
b667 2 points ago +2 / -0

Same shit. Opera is now based on Chromium which google controls. We're fucked basically.

1
SoldierofKek 1 point ago +1 / -0

No we aren't because if Google tries to seal off the Chromium project then there will be a fork of Chromium much like Linux Mint is a fork of Ubuntu. Chromium is true open source. I use Brave and Dissenter for my main browsing and I use Chromium and especially Opera to feed big tech misinformation.

Duckduckgo

smartass 5 points ago +5 / -0

The developer might suck but the code is still good, afaik. There are many more important things we should be focusing on.

Brave!

4
MakeAmericaLegendary 4 points ago +4 / -0

Use Brave!

3
Trump4WorldPresident 3 points ago +3 / -0

Fun fact: mozilla also owns brave browser. Or rather the guy who created mozilla also owns the brave browser. They're no better.

3
scyenceFiction 3 points ago +3 / -0

Wrong, so wrong. Besides the fact that they're completely different under the hood...

Brave was started by Brendan Eich, once he got fired by Mozilla for being based.

Yes he was one of Mozilla's founders and the creator of javascript, but...

he spoke out against gay marriage and censorship, so the sjw jackals at Mozilla tossed him out.

Brave welcomes free speech.
Mozilla's leadership has stated they will use their platform to deplatform and censor all conservatives.

Not the same, at all.

2
SoldierofKek 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not only don't I use firefox, but I practice browser discipline. I compartmentalize my browsers to deliberately feed big tech misinformation with Brave and Dissenter as my primary browsers and Opera and Chromium (Not Chrome the open source version) serving as secondary and tertiary browsers.

workinggal44 2 points ago +2 / -0

I was kind of afraid to delete it, thinking it might mess up my computer. Nonetheless, I did delete and it disappeared with no side effect.

Brave.

Better title: delete Firefox, install Brave

2
k_the_c 2 points ago +2 / -0

I have The Dissenter browser installed. Really impressed.

2
scyenceFiction 2 points ago +2 / -0

Brave or Dissenter. That's it at this point.

1
minttea2 1 point ago +1 / -0

Fennec F-Droid is literally Firefox (on an update delay) minus some of the shit. But the icon is blue shaded.

It has proprietary bits and telemetry removed, but still connects to various Mozilla and Google services that can track users. So add in at least Ublock Origin. Combined, you are doing far better than most users.

.Then add in at least:

and you may be OK.

What's wrong with Brave? Why the downvotes. I've been using for a few months. It's great! Please explain.

2
MakeAmericaLegendary 2 points ago +2 / -0

People were upset about it doing an ad substitute thing, IIRC. Nothing all that scandalous.

3
OPsMom 3 points ago +3 / -0

Interesting id like to know more, because I don't know what this means

3
VolareVia 3 points ago +3 / -0

If the user above is talking about what I'm thinking of, then Brave privately stores info about your search history on your computer and uses an algorithm to choose ads for you if and only if you have Brave Rewards enabled. The browser does not send this info anywhere. It's on your computer.
