Trying to remember the last time I went in a gamestop. Been a decade at least. I was actually slightly surprised to find out they were still in business.

Never been a console gamer though, and the last time I was in there half their stock was movies rather than games.

I didn't know at first first, and the person I was with pulled a used Passion of the Christ DVD out of the used dvd bin. "What the hell, they made that into a game, what is wrong with people!", I exclaimed, and a good laugh was had by all.

Well, and being able to buy games digitally has pretty much upended the used game trade. That's been taken over mainly by ma and pa shops with classic NES games and whatnot that Gamestop abandoned long ago.

Gamestop bought Thinkgeek some time ago to kind of remake themselves and now they're more a store for game-related merchandise than the games themselves.

I really miss the old Thinkgeek though. I mean it's not like you can't get t-shirts with tech support one-liners elsewhere, but there was a certain charm to the old company that really isn't in Gamestop.

Personally I've always liked gamestop since I kinda hate digital games. Like having the disk and the ones I've went to have always been cool.

I’m with you. I always like having the physical copy and case. I still have some old games I’ll never play anymore like Halo 2 for original Xbox as a keep sake.

Gamestop and others shot themselves in the foot on that.

Chronology as I remember it.

1.Drop PC games in favor of slightly more profitable console games

  1. That created the impetus for buyers to move to digital distributors and allow digital distribution to flourish when it had previously been fringe.

  2. When Console makers saw that people where using the cheaper(on the business side) distribution method, that pushed to be able to allow in their consoles.

And honestly that's perfectly fine.

I'm kinda in a weird position on this. I don't really "love" Gamestop, but I always found the usual criticisms kinda stupid. I used to love going there when I was younger, even worked there as a secondary hobby job for a bit.

Internally they're not really "evil", just very bland and corporate. Which doesn't really match up to selling something fun.

The best thing I ever did was get Steam,

Console fags deserve what they get, they follow the same marketing as I phones, they hold back features so they can overcharge you later and call it an improvement.

PC master race, and fuck gamestop. Last time I used them was to buy a used PS1 game back when PS1 was out.

Consoles also stifle gaming due to limitations and corporatism wanting to sell alot of games, the games would be so much better if you sprang for a decent video card.

Unpopular opinion but fuck Steam. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine service and great for PC games, but my god ever since Valve unleashed steam, they just dropped developing games like a ton of bricks (I know they made Half life VR, but that seems more to sell MORE of their hardware then anything else) I would love them to keep making games like Half Life, Portal, Team Fortress etc... but nah, can't be fussed too... =/

It's all good frien. We are all pedes here, having a mature discussion :) Unlike some other people!

Oh no this person disagreed with me down vote and deport! ;P

Moewrawn 3 points ago +3 / -0

True that man. It's not that I don't like steam as a service, but they made such good games, it's a shame they'll never do it again. And I know its a meme, but finish the half life series god dammit! lol

Steam is just convenient to me. I have......a couple hundred games. I'd give you my name on steam to prove, but I like to keep some anonymity due to the doxxing tendencies of the left.

Steam has been good at resisting SJWs , they were attacked a few times by the MSM,

I get most of my games from gog. DRM-free. I see complaints in the reviews about having to keep a steam account or lose all ones games. I suppose it's true. I imagine steam has a better selection of titles and more recent ones. I'm playing 15 years of catch-up from having been out of gaming for many years. I'm glad I've got a lot of great games to look forward to since it seems newer games are deteriorating in quality and wokeness.

Edit to include: love the new win gaming community! Hopefully will get some pc-related sites too.

Didn't they endorse a BLM "game" some time ago or something?

2
AntsCamera 2 points ago +2 / -0

They support alot of indy developers, they pushed back against pressure to take down anime tiddies games. BLM can have a game there too. You don't have to buy it, and honestly no one does. Just because it is there does not mean you have to partake in it., Look at what is on steam, you will never play most those games, but someone will, they want to make money.

On the bright side, they at least made a decent push towards games on Linux

I have a gaming PC. The problem I see is that I finally purchased the PC that could play all the cool games, but then I realized that no good games are coming out anymore. Cyberpunk was supposed to be the good one this year and it fucking sucks dick. The great games of last year, The Outer Worlds and Bolderlands 3 also sucked dick.

At least my computer can run CAD software.

ProphetOfKek 4 points ago +4 / -0

Kinda sucks, games are so “woke” now they are unplayable. And well cyberpunk is just a hot mess in general, literally worse AI than games that came out 20 years ago.

2
crash7863 2 points ago +2 / -0

It kind of show cases that the video cards are not the problem.

1
Crockett 1 point ago +1 / -0

At least your computer can still run old games. Better than your game library dying with each new console generation.

1
flashersenpai 1 point ago +1 / -0

Make the cool game. If you know how to use CAD you can make a game.

1
crash7863 1 point ago +1 / -0

Not my forte. I remember making a game using Visual Basic in high school where you would click a button to repeatedly kick the doom guy in the balls. The faggot ass limp wristed computer teacher freaked out about it. Fucking bitch ass.

So, I've decided that since video games suck now. I'll go back to doing what I used to do as a kid. I'll ride my bike and go fishing. Except that it's winter and ice fishing sucks. So I'll just sit inside, drink, and bitch about shit instead.

yunarukami 3 points ago +3 / -0

I can just emulate my console games instead. I can increase the resolution of these old games and use widescreen and 60 fps hacks.

Gmestop should partner with steam, wizards of the coast and become a lan party location. And nerd retailer.
