I would say the federal reserve is the cause of 80% of our current problems. By making interest rates abnormally low, it inhibits the markets ability to clear out unproductive behavior. All this recent craziness in the markets, and all this craziness on the political scene is precisely because the market is not being allowed to perform it's primary function of efficient capital allocation, and allocation of time and resources into productive activities, instead of destructive ones.
