Why would any parents allow their child to have a girlfriend/boyfriend, gay, straight, or whatever, at that age? Let's just cut to that chase right now. And yes, the operative word is "parents" -- it's parents who allow/put up with this. There is this wonderful word called "no"...parents need to wield it and properly.
In the meantime, I'd be for telling your own kid that lil' Suzy can no longer be part of the friend circle due to her parents' beliefs. Your move of course, but remember that word..."no".
Seriously? Boyfriends and girlfriends are pretty normal at that age...just not in the homo variety. I don't think I'll ever discourage my son from having a girlfriend. I remember having a "girlfriend" from 3rd to 6th grade. Really the only time we'd see each other outside of school was at other kids' birthday parties and maybe going to a movie with our parents.
