Holy shit like any of this is bad? These are American values! Yet they simultaneously claim there "is no American culture."

Fuck this commie scum

If you think there is no such thing as American culture, take a trip to Canada and you will find this is a lie.

Take a trip anywhere in the world. You will see American clothing, American entertainment, American food and American designed products. I LOVE when people tell me America has no culture. If this were a game of civ, we would have secured a culture win in the 50s. 70 years later and we're still on top and our culture is 'appropriated' in EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

Our music/movies dominate the world. Our Sports dominate the world (aside from soccer cause even a jogger in africa can afford a ball) Our clothing is worn by everyone (jeans, American brands) Our food is the most prevalently invasive cuisine in the world. I can get a big mac in almost every communist state.

Don't believe me? Name one chinese athletics brand. Name one chinese "superstar". Name one Chinese culinary dish that is sold in every country in the world and not bastardized from its original. to suit local tastes. You can't. The eurotrash spouting his nonsense can't. Because Chinese (or any other) culture is uninfluential.

Now ask a Chinese person if they know what a big mac tastes like, who Lady Gaga is, or their favorite American clothing brand, and 100% of those square heads will know. Our culture is the dominant culture in the world. Has been since before most of us were born.

I've been trying to find examples of "American food" for my friends in south America. All I can think of are Southern cooking and cajun food.

Anyone know some other examples of dishes that started in america or styles in different areas of the country?

The Hamburger invented in the United States in the turn of the 20th century. Its name comes from "Hamburg Style Steak" which is what chopped meat was called then, contrary to popular opinion its not because it was invented in Germany. And the Hamburger my friend is arguably the most popular and widespread food in the entire world.

You're joking right? From the philly cheesesteak, to the fish taco, I can literally list off hundreds of regional American specialties.

Yeah I’m not rushing to watch Bollywood films or music videos.

India was super cool to visit, but nah.

Even the moniker Bollywood is them copying our dominant culture.

Wow, we are so great because the Chinese know of a degenerate pop star and knows the taste of highly processed waste meat!

Man, what a culture. You used great examples.

Canadians are more polite and conflict avoidant. Americans are more direct and will often engage in public conflict or complaint.

Canadians are quieter, Americans louder.

Americans value service and often treat customers as higher status. Canadians value equality of status for service workers and customers.

Measurements are different.

Americans generally like the French. Canadians generally dislike the French.

Differences go on and on. All this between two countries so similar they are considered brothers.

American culture is very specific and distinct. It is not the same as English, Canadian, Australian, or any other country.

Canadians will soon be all Indians and Chinese anyway so all those minor differences will be moot

Some of what your describing of the US is regional. If you treat someone in the service industry like a servant in the south you're just seen as an asshole.

People up north hardly even seen to make eye contact with strangers, down south everyone greets everyone, exchanges passing pleasantries and well wishes.

Americans generally like the French. Canadians generally dislike the French.

America/France relations: Both hated the British so much that France helped the US fight a war against them while still under British rule.

Canada/France relations: French has a historical dislike of the British so much that they help British colonies gain their independence and also have had so many revolutions against their rulers that it's almost comedic. Canada still bows to the Queen like a bunch of useless twats.

Canadians value politeness. Don't try to butt into a line. We seem to value humour a bit more (the self-deprecating kind) and forthrightness a bit less (or a lot less). There seems to be less racial tension. People are rule followers. Less independent thought.

So, Canadians are what Brits used to be a long time ago.

Realize this was an official government document produced by the Smithsonian. How fucked up is that?

Nobody told the designer how to properly orient the flag.

Or did they do it wrong on purpose?

3
CuomoisaMassMurderer 3 points ago +3 / -0

Wait. I've seen the US flag flown like that. On July 4th. At official events.

If that is bad, it would be the only bad thing on the graphic. The content is how things should be.

_-Th0r-_ 2 points ago +2 / -0

The blue field is always top left.

2
CuomoisaMassMurderer 2 points ago +2 / -0

Actually, it's not. Again, I have seen it flown the way it is here in this graphic, by government officials. In the 70s. This is not a new thing.

It's certainly more normal to fly it as you describe. And I only saw it done with YUUGE flags that were too big to be flown the normal way. There's all sorts of flag etiquette; Idk if any of it has strength of law? Has any of it changed in the last 50 years?
