It would never work financially but I understand the sentiment...as far as family bonding time goes in my youth, I couldn't wait to pester my parents on Friday night to head to the blockbuster and pick out the weekend movies.
Dang young whipper snappers don't know the struggle of old school gaming. We had to literally blow into our games to give them the breath of life. Oh, you're so close to beating the game but parents said it's bedtime and there's no such thing as save files yet? Lol tough shit kiddo try again tomorrow
Also, a $60 game and a quarter at the arcade was waaaay more expensive back in the 80s/90s when you consider inflation.
Blockbuster had a secure entrance and exit. Oneway door in oneway door out. I would let my kid take off to the kiddie section alone and have time alone. I remember being a kid of the 80s (before the Walsh kid went missing tv hype) and being able to walk in a store and take off then meet up with my parents. As a kid there was something neat about that and I’m glad there was a blockbusters for my kid.
I miss browsing. Even Netflix used to just have broad categories you could browse in alphabetical order. It allowed m to discover amazing documentaries and flicks I would never have thought to watch. With everything suggested to you it keeps you from finding new discoveries
At this point you can just make your own company to do that, and doesn't even need to pay for the brand, but make one what every conservatives will know.
I was still doign that in 2010 or so! It was like $20 a month total and we could have 3 DVDs out at any time. My roommates and I were poor, so it was fuckin awesome to be able to go and get some entertainment for cheap to make our miserable existences that much better.
Now if you want the same selection of movies, you need around $60/month and you're still gonna have to pay a few extra fees for extra subscriptions for some stuff. Plus you have to have internet to do it. You can't save the money on internet and just pay blockbuster.

Weekend movies, weekend video games. Original speed runs were when you had to try and beat the new game before it was due back haha.
Ahhhh, the original speed runs. Fun times. :)
