I've said for years that (these days) it's fiscally-irresponsible to go to a 4yr college; better to take in training for trade-based jobs, which are always in need given their nature. My son's friend graduated high school and went straight into welding school. A few short years later, he's pulling in six-digit pay as an underwater welder. His other friends are working dead-end jobs just to maintain themselves. My son opted for a military career right out of high school - a career that is taking VERY good care of him, now 8 years out of high school.
