To be fair, we all want to get paid and a comedian or entertainer really has no more responsibility than you or I to stick our necks out and risk destruction. We can opine that this makes him a spineless coward but he's under no obligation to us to be anything else just because he's famous. I'm not opposed to criticism of him but I also don't really see him as a problem at all.
