Short version: it hurts him to announce now.
Long version:
First off, Congress isn’t going go prevent him from ru. I got again. They don’t have 100% of Dems on board, and take pleasure in Biden’s early days still being all about Trump. The snowflakes could have just had 8 years, now they’re getting 12 years of their life impacted by Trump.
Trump should NOT announce 2024 right now. His team is saying they are focused on 2022 midterms and retaking House & Senate.
Reading into this, this gives you a few clues.
1 - Trump is either running or would rather enjoy his later years in life and not waste time. By being actively involved in retaking Congress, you know he’s not in “forget it” mode. He is coming back.
2 - Enough with the “our votes will never matter” crowd. If that were fate, then Trump wouldn’t be doing all this. He’s still in the fight, so we stay in the fight (@ alphabet agencies, the use of the phrase “in the fight” is just a phrase and is not intended to be taken to a literal call to violence). Nobody is feeling the sting of the fraud worse than him, and bet money he’s going after a fix.
3 - This is the real kicker: he can raise unlimited funds in a SuperPAC so long as he doesn’t declare himself a candidate.
THIS IS WHY he will be coy in the media about his intentions.
It is the same thing ¡Jeb! did in 2015. Start SuperPAC. Get money. Spend on research and strategy development. Then leave to become a candidate.
FEC rules prevent campaigns and PACs from coordinating, but nothing says you can’t in essence build a PAC first with everyone on the same page and then separate.
But the second you say you are running you are back to campaign contribution limits.
So take heart. I know it sucks, and the steal burns, but he will be back.
