I have been utterly convinced for a long time now that the not-taking-the-husband's-name thing is an intentional strategy to make it harder to track these sorts of relationship connections. My default position now is that anyone like this in some sort of public or quasi-public role where the husband and wife have different names are compromised and/or corrupt in some fashion.
