Company is now letting all employees work remotely forever. So fucking done with Bay Area bullshit a d can go wherever I want. I share a fucking 2BR apartment that I could sell for $850k despite making around $250k/year. How the fuck does that make sense? It's almost paid off. I'm selling and leaving. Suggestions welcome. I'm thinking New Braunfels TX

Edit: My parents are elderly and mobility restricted so I want to go somewhere they can get a 1 story ranch home and never see snow. Trying to avoid biting bugs but can tolerate heat. Thanks.

TX has no income tax, and it is warm.

Wyoming is very nice. Laramie is a lovely town and not as windy as the other parts of Wyoming because, trees. You'll find like-minded people there. No state taxes. And it's a 45 min drive to up into the Snowy Range-- gorgeous, with elk herds, trout fishing, alpine type lakes and plants. I wish I still lived in Laramie!

I really appreciate that but no snow for me.

Aw... it's so beautiful there. You buy a Blazer and good boots laugh at the snow. I remember you can see five types of weather all at once in the big sky! There were many winter days in Laramie where I just wore a jean jacket over a sweatshirt! One day it was -30 degrees and you know what we did? Stayed indoors for a day. Don't be such a pussy! Look up some stats on Wyoming population.

Lived in Minneapolis. No stranger to snow. It's not for me.

Good, we need patriots in Texas to help push for secession.

Good. Either that or like us, we refuse to put ours back up until we restore the Republic.

Come to TX bro! You can buy a 2-3000 square ft house for half that in some nice suburbs in good school districts in Denton County. DM for more info if you want.

Edit* our realtor helped us find a place to rent while we were still out of state. Even went to places to make sure they were legit and took photos for us. We bought our house with her the next year. Can recommend if useful 👍

Celebrating 20th year in exile from the Bay Area in gorgeous South Carolina. Congratulations to you! Smartest thing I ever did was leave California, wish I’d moved sooner. Best of luck to you!

I am an over the road truck driver and I see huge chunks of the country regularly and I have to say Iowa is one of my favorite places as far as the plane states go. Tennessee if you’re into the mountains and excellent fishing. Ohio is nice but I’m biased because that’s where I’m from. I spent 18 years in North Carolina and if you’re looking for a warmer climate with access to the beach anywhere east of Raleigh is fantastic. Try to stay out of the Piedmont Durham Greensboro Raleigh area it gets very humid and the wind hardly ever blows there.

I personally am not a great fan of Texas the traffic is insane it’s really hot. Same reason I don’t like anything in the deep South though Florida Alabama Mississippi and Louisiana included. I have no problem with the people the weather is just too much for me.

Stay out of Illinois and Missouri both of those states have a lot of problems. The Dakotas are absolutely beautiful as well and Colorado is fantastic if you can afford it.

Thank you kind sir I will be following up with questions soon of you dont mind

Lots of neat little towns around Austin. Marble Falls, Horseshoe Bay, Burnet, and Fredericksburg come to mind. Laid back and near lakes/rivers.

Warning - many bugs (that bite) and lots of humidity. And small towns with generational residents that label anyone whose kin hasn't been there for 100 years newcomers.

Fly into Austin and drive around for a week or so.

The bugs are a problem. Anywhere in TX without biting bugs? I dont remember it being a huge problem when I lived in Austin or Tyler

1
TEXinLA 1 point ago +1 / -0

I would think West Texas would have fewer biting bugs due to lower humidity.

If you've lived in Tyler and Austin and weren't bothered by the mosquitoes and yellow jackets, you'll be okay.

My Mother grew up in Orange County and relocated to the DFW Metroplex after she married my Dad. She hated bugs - chiggers, mosquitoes, yellow jackets, etc.

Nope lived in Minneapolis for years. Done with snow. I have elderly parents that would likely slip and die on it.
