There's a difference between "The Left's thought leaders" and a lot of mostly non-political-but-Left-indoctrinated sheep.

The goal isn't to attract the self-proclamed "Populist Left" - AOC. etc. They aren't populist - and that's precisely why they have vision statements and guidance ...

It's to keep slapping the going-along types "on the Left" with "Why is the Left " helping to bail out the bank/hedge/etc types and give them cover?
