Just a thought because I try to put relationships above politics, as hard as that can be sometimes. If he spent a lot of nights with you ranting and you clearly felt that had value, then maybe he could have just raged about BLM and all that bullshit and you could have just heard him out and not counter him. I don't mean to assume what went down, so forgive me if I don't get what happened. I have people in my life that are all blm and such. I just let it go and know that even if they don't get it all, they are trying to do what they think is right.

Behavior and personality are genetic in nature, not cultural. Culture is a reflection of genetics, not the the way around. You might want to study up on some neuroscience; culture can only slightly shift behavior away from the genetic baseline.
