The worst atrocities committed throughout the history of humankind have almost always been implemented through either religion and or law.
It's been noted that "recent converts" to a religion (or cult) tend to be sometimes the most vocal , the most stringent and the most zealous (to a point when even longtime practitioners are like "WTF ???") .
Some have already talked here about "intersectionality" or "neo-Marxism" to use another term for it . It's a secular project , but it has many of the markers of a religion or a cult .
