First, it's terrible. And dishonorable for the US government to put this man at risk if he worked with the feds.
But it's GREAT that it happened, because

Do you have a link to it? I searched and of course all I could find is the gaslighting propagandist media articles. I followed him on Parler but it's been shut down to prevent free speech. What a world!
