Humans lived at the equator for thousands of years. And that's BEFORE air conditioning.

Answer: it was designed to be that way by God who made earth habitable for his creation. Sure that statement takes faith to believe, but probably less faith than any crazy idea someone else can come up with.

I think it's worth noting that a model was created by the author to try to figure out the probability of the Earth maintaining habitability over time. He had to design planets in his model to include various feedback mechanisms to maintain habitability. It seems even less likely that those mechanisms would spontaneously arise on a given planet without the intervention/direction of an intelligent being.

Actually, a sizable chunk of Earth's history is uninhabital for your average human. Earth as it is right now is not how it spends most of its time.

The Earth has gone through five ice ages Paleo-Eocene Thermal Maximum, when the Earth was so hot that even the poles reached nearly tropical temperatures. the Earth has gone through periods of extreme warming more than once. The poles have frozen and thawed and frozen again. Now, the Earth is heating up again. Excerpts from https://www.livescience.com/65927-has-earth-been-this-hot-before.html
