That is not true. I grew up in the 1970's and the ice age drama was front page news worldwide!
Scientific consensus means NOTHING.
Galileo was thought the fool for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun not vice versa.
The "scientific consensus" has been for sale to the highest bidder for hundreds of years, but has only gotten worse the last few decades.
Yes it was in the news a few times, but it was not what climate scientists were talking about. of 68 studies during that decade only 10% predicted cooling, while 90% predicted warming or no-stance.
But the problem is some magazines ran with the cooling even though it was not the general consensus. A small difference also is that these days scientific consensus is well vetted unlike hundreds of years ago, it is not a group jumping on something they think is popular.
Can you explain things like the record low ice caps this year, and the hottest years on record are almost every year now. And the vast amount of once in a century storms are almost yearly now, or even multiple times a year now.
I am arguing the case against MAN MADE climate change.
Please take some time to read up on Milankovitch Cycles, first defined in the 1930s. They explain why the earth’s climate is constantly changing and how three planetary cycles drive the earth’s climate over thousands and millions of years. In short, the three cycles: 1. the earth’s continuously shifting elliptical orbit around the sun; 2. the changing tilt of the earth’s axis towards and away from the sun; and 3. the wobble of the earth’s axis towards and away from the sun. “Man-made global warming” is an arrogantly narrow view that completely ignores these highly complex cyclical factors at play in our solar system, that directly impact the earth and drive changes to its climate. Magnetic pole switching and reversal of global ocean warm / cold water currents (like the Gulf Stream) – two more little gems that have happened many times before in the earth’s history, that have had (and will have) huge impacts on global climate since the earth was first formed – all “natural” and completely not “man-made”.
The current changes are too fast and extreme for it to be related to the very slow process of the Milankovitch Cycles. I have read about this in the past and it's just not supported.
"they cannot account for the current period of rapid warming Earth has experienced since the pre-Industrial period (the period between 1850 and 1900), and particularly since the mid-20th Century. Scientists are confident Earth’s recent warming is primarily due to human activities — specifically, the direct input of carbon dioxide into Earth’s atmosphere from burning fossil fuels."
" Finally, Earth is currently in an interglacial period (a period of milder climate between Ice Ages). If there were no human influences on climate, scientists say Earth’s current orbital positions within the Milankovitch cycles predict our planet should be cooling, not warming, continuing a long-term cooling trend that began 6,000 years ago."

Not saying the climate does not change.
