For people who actually are means tested and REALLY CAN'T pay their rent due to "pandemic" bullshit... okay... but I happen to know a lot of renters are trying to pull a fast one and just not pay, even though they can. Furthermore, this happens on the mortgage side too... people "deferring" and pocketing.

The renters aren't the problem. Even if they are pulling a fast one. The problem is the government for promoting this shit en mass. They want the reliance on them from renters and they also want the landlords to go bankrupt so they can gobble up that land.

A lot of people have zero integrity, it's because they had parents that had zero integrity.

My property taxes sure as heck weren't forgiven.

the mortgage people are deferring and pocketing...but they are still going to end up paying that amount later. Either they will have to pay that amount in full when their deferment ends or the amount will just be added to the end of their loan.

Guys at work did the deferral because they didn't know what was gonna happen. Seems reasonable I guess

This is true as in there are no freebies here, however one has to document income to get a deferral.

If rent isn’t coming in, the landlord can’t pay the bank. The bank will for close and take the property. Once the banks own the property, rent payments are back on and monthly payments go up. The banks will sell the properties to the next victims.

I was given the option to not pay rent last year.

I am a tradesmen, not a college boy, so even though I was laid off... I found ways to earn a dollar and continue to pay my rent.

I'm not a fucking freeloader, I know the guy who owns my house rents it to me for MONEY, not for a fuckin charity.

I can vouch for this. We had a renter in our community that was harassing people and kids. He had a case against him. They couldn't get him to leave, even though his lease was up and it was ruled that he was to be evicted! He milked it and cried how hard it was to move during COVID. The bastard stuck around rent free for about 5 extra months

It's crazy. I'm seeing plenty of places putting up signs saying they're hiring here in Ohio. If there are job openings, we don't need to offer help. If there are no jobs, sure.

People are hiding behind this "there's a dangerous pandemic" nonsense to pretend it's "dangerous" to work.

why not just give the place to the renter---so much easier

I don't know about where you live but in Pennsylvania you can't just give someone a home if you owe a mortgage. The mortgage has to be paid off

Straight to another housing market crash

well that's long overdue to be honest.... but it's like, are we trying to find the most wreckless possible way for it to happen? seems like it.

Reckless you say... Yup. Wouldn't suprise

Tons are not paying and just blowing the extra money.

I live on the Oregon coast, a tourist area. This past summer we had crowds far larger than I've ever seen. I'm talking two times normal at all the parks and tourist spots.

One Portland landlord's group has about 30% of renters not paying.

I have two vacant properties that are staying vacant until this bullshit is done. If it's not done by July, I'm selling them. Fewer rental units on the market will drive up rents and benefit me in the long run.

Meanwhile, the county almost doubled the 'appraised value' of all vacant land, and substantially increased the 'appraised value' of all other real estate so they can collect more revenue.

I live in a wunnerful Apt. complex. The owners of the property have 3 other sites. They say the have lost over $1M since this nonsense began

My Manager says 4 renters of hers are taking advantage...Surprise, surprise!

A promise from a democrat should not be counted on. It will come back and bite someone.

I wonder if biden will keep the banks for foreclosing when the owners can't make payments because they can't collect rent?

This is not fair at all to landlords when scammers don't pay and live for free and just try to get rid of them. With extended layoff and xtra cash on top nobody wants to work while they sit on their ass and screw everyone. Us workers pay for them with more taxes......Thanks to our useless government!

Even of they are, they aren't wrong (logically, not morally) for doing so. Free money, might as well get yours while you can.

The problem is the government wants to get people hooked on gibs

Friend's husband died last Jan. She had to sell their mini-farm because without him she couldn't maintain it. She planned to move into a rental they owned because the lease was up. The renter and wife both work from home, refuse to leave or pay rent, citing Covid. She's in her 70's with no home and slowly going broke.

Freetheusa 1 point ago +1 / -0

If that happened to me which I'm sure it won't because my old house is rented to my son, I would let it go to the bank.

Ugh that’s so frustrating! And the worst part is when all this is done, you probably won’t even be able to sue them for the money back. Fuck this corrupt, backwards ass country

What these retards who think this is a good idea by the government fail to realize is that the housing shortage is just going to get worse as landlords will refuse to rent properties and just keep them vacant similar to areas with rent control.

It is also going to drive up the cost to buy a house and inflate home prices.

Sure, there will be massive foreclosures, but unlike 2008 they will be privately bought out by investors/developers and regular folks are only goingto get a chance to buy really shitty foreclosures.

Those that don't own now will likely never be able to own.
