Infosec guy here - it is more than possible for them to have covered their tracks in a way that even forensic analysis would not be able to figure out.

The physical drives could have been reformatted at the data level to a "known clean" state overwriting all forensic evidence of tampering and file deletion. It is entirely possible for them to get away with being audited.

However,

Their reluctance to allow a forensic audit of the disks themselves suggests that they may not have cleaned up well enough.

We will see.

Which at very least SHOULD be a violation of the election rules to retain all the data for years.

But we know they don't care.
