All of their other attempts have failed. The savior was getting closer and closer. With each failure, the elites would clamp down harder on silencing the masses. Even parchment was now a controlled substance, requiring a pledge to conform to the elites' ever-changing policies. They tripled and quadrupled false information aimed at misdirecting the people.
With such growing contempt of the people, the elites eventually realized the only way to prevent the savior from having the power to expose them was to rig everything, including a system the people relied upon since the founding: the legislature, the judicial system, and the election itself.
