I live in a hispanic dominated area and the one thing that isn't happening is assimilation. What is happening is a cratering of the American culture in favor of the dominant culture.
Here is the US we have two immigrant populations that are reproducing quickly - Muslims and Hispanics.
While we need to be tough on illegal immigrants, at least our proximity to Mexico assures more of the latter than the former.
Hispanics share the same Judaeo-Christian value system and are much more likely to assimilate.
In Europe, immigrants are having one kid more on average than natives. I a generation or two they'll wish they shared a border with Mexico.
I believe this is more about a shared ideology than ethnicity.
