Taiwan has some pretty badass tech companies that are valuable. And a good marketplace for startups.

And you're allowed to think creatively there, unlike China where you'll be "disappeared" if you step out of line.

Yeah isn't Taiwan the true China?

They are. Mainland was the official "ROC" - republic of China. Until the CCP (communist party) - much like the Democratic party - decided to destroy their political opponent to establish total control. The difference is that the CCP did it by violent military means.

The ROC fought back - but ultimately retreated to Taiwan (which was already part of the country). To this day, this "civil war" hasn't been settled.

But the "Taiwan Relations Act" which is enacted 1979 explains that US has obligations to protect Taiwan or at least prevent a violent outcome of the situation.

So basically, if a civil war broke out in US between red states and blue states during a Republican presidency, and Red states had to retreat to say... Texas. Then that'd be Taiwan/USA.

(I may have gotten some of it wrong. The important this is that China is a totalitarian communist country with a Hitler-like ruler that wishes to take over the world, while Taiwan is peaceful and democratic.)

You've got it about right. And the CCP has been super salty about the Republic of China ever since.

I had a Taiwanese very close friend. She told me:

The natives there resented Chang taking over with his military after fleeing defeat. They hated his junta. They’d been occupied by Japan for 10 years prior and were fed up with being occupied. They’re not China. Not CCP not Nationalist China. They’re Taiwan, or Formosa. It’s complicated more than I can grasp. Friend was a tough little nut. Not at all shy and retiring. A real Tiger Lilly.

Taiwan is real China. CCP is fake China.

Has the Alibaba CEO been seen lately?

He appeared recently. And announced he had shifted his priorities toward "rural revitalization" and "benefitting society as a whole" and other diffuse things.

Explanation:

"The fact that he'd focused on his company's commitment to rural revitalisation projects — using language that is in line with [President Xi Jinping's] policy priorities — is suggestive of the pressure and scrutiny he is now under".

Lol, can't wait for Bezos to disappear for a while then reappear saying he's now committed to rural revitalization and such

OK, so... this article is complete fucking trash, well I mean Financial Times is garbage, but this article in particular is extraordinarily odious.

china has had something like 47 quarters of negative growth

The yuan is so valueless, even the chinese don't accept it, their payment apps are in dollars or nearby country's currency

This headline to gives the impression Taiwan has been lagging behind China. That is false. Taiwan peaked a long time ago. Search for the per capita GDP of each.
