I have Gab open on my phone right now.

Yea by sideloading, which is something the vast majority of users don't know how to do or won't do. It's irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If it ain't in the official store it might as well not exist.

The more censorious platforms get the more people will explore alternatives. Sideloading isn't hard, it's not like rooting the phone or reflashing the bootloader, I could walk my mom through it over the phone.

Do you know why Amazon dominates the market? Because people are too lazy to create an account on yet another site. That's the barrier of entry we are talking about for the average consumer. Sideloading might as well be akin to scaling mount Everest.

When consumers can't get something they want, they become quite clever.

You can't really buy cocaine powder anywhere, and there's a chance you'll face serious legal problems if you're caught with it.

Nonetheless, millions of normal people all over the US (and the world) figure out how to buy some every year.

Now decrease the stakes from "a felony" to "grandpa has to ask his grandson how to do something on the computerphone so he can keep reading his favorite deplatformed conservative pundits".
