Soil isn't all that great. After building my house, a lot of red clay got mixed into the top soil. Even grass has a hard time in certain places. My greenhouse is 20' x 16' and I'm in the process of building raised beds to plant in. I'll probably need to buy some soil for them or something.
Get some topsoil brought in if you need. In the mean time look up hay bale gardening on YouTube. This will give you some decent yields until you can build some decent soil up for your beds. Use the compost from the bales to make the soil richer. You can also look up hugelkultur to build up your beds for the long haul. here is one source with pros n cons of these methods.
