This is it right here. The D.C. establishment is the uniparty. The only reason they're reporting this is because the Uniparty leans sharply to the left and they're reassessing how useful the Cheney "loyal opposition" is at this point given Liz has no clout. They are just signaling they need another sucker to play her uniparty role.
