True to a degree, but the South rightly believed it had a clear right to secede given to them in the Constitution.

Plus the recent 45% tax the North levied on the South was going to destroy them if they did not leave. And the just elected Lincoln had promised to keep that tax in place and strictly enforce it.

The victor writes history, TAXES was the reason the South left. This tax:

Slavery as a bone of contention had been resolved by the Dredd-Scott decision, it was a nonissue for both sides, but we all should know that by now.
