The point isn't really to boost AMC as much as it is to leave the riggers holding a very expensive bag at the end of the trading. The exposure massively short positions that the vulture capitalists are taking is the very best way to spank them. The company while I like having movie theaters isn't the essence of this deal. This is a way to level the playing field for all Americans for everyone that wants to invest in capital markets without being cheated.

The without being cheated part is the most important. Do I want chicom companies to succeed not really, but that's not the target here.
