My Dad wants me to give him Power of Attorney and then give him the paperwork. I own my own home. Would that give him power to sell it right from under me if he wanted to. What nefarious (if someone wanted to be) things can someone do with a power of attorney. I appreciate your time.

I’m in Australia so it may be different here, but the language of a POA here also includes when it becomes active, and you can just tick the box that says “when I’m incapacitated and unable to make decisions for myself”.

But I agree with the others, sounds sketchy - I wouldn’t do it. Or if I did it I wouldn’t give the paperwork to him, I’d give it to my lawyer to hold. And it’s not normal for kids to give POA to parents, it’s usually the other way around.

Bottom line - get legal advice. Because the answer to your question is yes he could sell your home, POA lets him do anything in your name.
