So I’m on board that there’s fuckery going on, but this photo is a very good example of normal people not understanding photoshop/Lightroom and “HDR” effects.

The halo-blurry effect is what you get when you over raise (think recover detail) and over-reducing highlights. Only cameras with 14-15 stop dynamic range can handle 100% on those sliders. Some newer Leica sensors can, but iPhone must do it in software and fake it.

That software faking creates bloom-areas where the program tries to reconcile all the changes and the brightness bleeds.

The table shelf is fine. It’s a three legged table with a triangular shelf.

His shoulder is bloomed, not blurry, as per my first paragraph.

The red line is a good visual, thanks for that when doing a post like this, but you can clearly see the panels of his shoe’s stitch lines protruding.

Trumps heel simply has his pants cuff running down it. A tad long for my taste but is in style in a fashion.

There is a healthy amount of jpg compression artifact if as well but the bloom explanation is more encompassing for the majority of issues.

The one point that you think your making... grab the full photo from any website that ran the story. Bring it into Photoshop - this was doctored in Ps not Lr. Zoom in on McCarthy’s shoe, what you claim is stitching is actually the design on the carpet. There is a distinct eraser edge, straight and crisp that runs the length of the outside edge of the shoe. The first day of my first art class in college the teacher boldly claimed “There are no straight lines in nature!” McCarthy’s shoe being “organic” in shape would not have the appearance of what equates to an X-Acto blade slice.

Loading my version of this photo to .win required further compression so I would not drag and drop this image to illustrate this point. There are anomalies beyond “an iPhone took this photo” first, the room is professionally lit and Trump and McCarthy are not using the same light sources. Trying to explain that an iPhone will keep all the surrounding furniture crisp and clear yet create blur artifacts around a person that is feet away from the lense... yeah, no. They aren’t even using “portrait mode” so trying to justify this bokeh effect doesn’t hold water.

And the table shelf isn’t “fine” yes, it’s a triangle, but the edge behind his leg lost its definition and it’s not to be blamed on a shadow, the artist who “rushed” this job fucked up.

Also, Trump’s heel, the bottom back portion that touched the floor is blurred beyond what it should be for the lighting situation especially compared to other similar objects.

I can show you 100 photos of Trump in this very room with as many different light/ camera sources and you will not see the edge anomalies that you see in this photo. Stop trying to pretend that an iPhone and it’s compression is creating all the artifacts in the photo. I do this stuff for a living, there are three very distinct images used here to create what you are looking at. My main question is why, what are they trying to sell and to whom? Optics, I don’t believe Trump is in Florida, there are no flight restrictions over Mar-a-Largo. They are going out of their way to make people to think he’s there but he’s not.

Didn’t bring up portrait mode on iOS. That’s for fake blurring for software BOKEH and it’s shit. I didn’t say an iPhone took THIS photo, I was drawing parallels people could relate to. The shelf behind his leg (I don’t know if you are generally referring to the left or right edge) has two ogee-routed edges and the hard light from the left of the frame rendered that edge with more definition...more separation, from the carpet. The right side is a similar luminance to to carpet, so the are less differentiated. Think contrast. The room isn’t professionally lit. There’s no key light, no fill, no bounce. There IS full surround lighting coming in from all around behind the shooter’s back, both left and right, and the appearance of fill/main light is made by them shadowing each other’s side from an even light source. There’s either banks of windows or doorways, as made apparent by the shadow on Trump’s jacket by his hand. If it were studio light, even fairly diffuse, it would be crisper from that shadow alone, unless they were in a white room, which he isn’t. The “straight line in nature’ comment is quaint, but I bet you could find a lot of things on nature that can manage to be perfectly straight for 5” or so, let alone a man-made leather shoe that didn’t grow out of a fucking stream. Chill out.

The best was Hillary green screening during the 2016 election instead of actually campaigning.
