Thanks. I was unaware. Better them doing this themselves than the rest of the world joining forces to take it out. I wrote out a 7 point list in April, outlining what must be done. Even here, some thought it too harsh.

Next question:

how do we know the lab isn't still functioning? I suppose satellite photographs help confirm.

I'm suspicious that China would destroy it. Rebuild it underground, or elsewhere. Be more stringent with safety protocols. Could be just a show?

It’s not so much a show as it is panic. Chinas “politics before performance” culture doesn’t exactly breed brilliant researchers and scientists. They scrubbed the place once already but were afraid the WHO team of actual doctors and virologists would find something they didn’t account for. To protect themselves they took the nuclear option. As for rebuilding the lab, this lab wasn’t some secret military weapons lab. It may have been doing research like that but officially it was just a normal bio research institute. The Chinese have a couple of these labs dotted across the country. And as for stringent safety protocols? In China? That’s a laugh.

Level IV labs aren't "just normal bio research," and yes they have stringent protocols to an international standard. Obviously China didn't follow that in art least this case, I'm not sure how many other level IV labs they may have. Not exactly cheap to build.

Ah now we are getting down to the crux of the issue. Yes the lab was a level 4 and supposedly super secure. BUT this is China, the land of lies and facades. Yes the lab, at face value was secure. Yes the scientists and researchers (including foreign researchers on exchange) are well versed in biohazard protocols. But what about the other staff? What about the administrator of the lab, who wasn’t a scientist at all but the wife of a local government official. How about the cleaning staff? In fact the rumor on the ground in China about the origins of the virus is as follows: The lab does some testing with live animals. The animals die or are killed and are dumped on site awaiting proper disposal. A low level worker sees the piles of chickens or whatever and being likely poor and uneducated (cheap labor) takes them and sells them at the local wet market for a pretty penny. You can guess what happens next. The whole lab is in panic because they can’t actually ID what happened or who is at fault. So when this thing spirals out of control, CCP leadership nukes the whole site and (hopefully) with it any loose ends.
