If you like chrome, use the Brave Browser. Uses the same software but is not controlled by Google

Google chrome is not duckduckgo. I don't understand your question.

I have had problems before, where I downloaded something by Adobe, and accidentally got Chrome with it. Chrome inserted itself as my search engine. Then I had to uninstall Chrome, and after uninstalling it, I had to chase down a leftover file, and get rid of that, too.

Sorry I can't be more clear, it's been many months since I beat this one into submission.

Yeah, try brave browser. It looks and acts almost identical to chrome without the big tech injections.

it also imports all your bookmarks and stuff from chrome and is a seamless switch
