The popular comments are most likely written by paid shills and upvoted by paid shills, and seeks to shape what people should think and believe and present a mirage of what is the accepted opinion (or rather, what the people in power demands that people believe).

I really wish I would've saved every piece of info I was able to digest at the time but I wasn't fully aware of what was happening. I was in the tail end of the thick of it, some time before Elons "Gamestonk" tweet, and only then had I realized what was happening. A bit after that I was able to gather that this is much more than the short squeeze. The short squeeze definitely over shadows it all and rightfully so, but people are behaving as if GameStop is going back to being a near penny stock after it's all over. Somehow they as the big institutions didn't know that GameStop was worth more than they thought and it had a big customer base. It was still in decent shape, it was exploring online business and it got investment from Chewy. They either didn't know or they straight up ignored it. Second, shorting is a very risky move, because if the price goes up, it would cost them a fortune to cover their short position. The potential loss is limitless as the potential surge is limitless. In this case, it cost them tens of billions!
In summary, hedge funds got beat up in their own game. They had nobody but themselves to blame for screwing it up. But of course, they had to describe it as an "insurrection in the financial sector" to save face, and to collude with the brokers to save their asses. Robinhood shut down GME trading for one day, that gave them a precious time window to exit. This could've been a one off incident in the money market, but now they escalated the situation and turned it into a new populist movement. They've been exploiting the country for too long, they make the public to take the risk and they put all the gain in their pockets, it's about time for them to get a bloody nose. This is a pushback they deserve.

He spoke of rumors over Ryan Cohen buying up Gamestop stock and appointing some of his staff to the team way before it was on anyones radar. Now that the subreddit is no longer privated it's quite a lot to sift through and I'm having trouble finding it, but you can easily find gilded comments like this ---- or this that can help you. As you would expect he was mocked for his investment.
At the end of December this was published and it vindicated his theory. (Edit: Seems as if the article is now behind a paywall (Also to correct myself, he bought up a large portion of the available stock not half).
I really wish I would've saved every piece of info I was able to digest at the time but I wasn't fully aware of what was happening. I was in the tail end of the thick of it, some time before Elons "Gamestonk" tweet, and only then had I realized what was happening. A bit after that I was able to gather that this is much more than the short squeeze. The short squeeze definitely over shadows it all and rightfully so, but people are behaving as if GameStop is going back to being a near penny stock after it's all over. If GameStop plays its cards right, leverages its current popularity and combines it with whatever Ryan has in store then I don't believe that will be the case.

Look at the institutional ownership of GME on Yahoo Finance. That's how much GME hedgefunds own. People aren't investing in Melvin capital to save them, they are investing because they know they will make a killing. Melvin most would have had far out calls to cover their shorts anyway and they have certainly been selling puts to offset any costs. They claim they covered at a 100% loss, so what does that even mean? In shorting that doesn't really make sense because if they shorted at $10 then they covered at $20 for a 100% loss.

Those hedge funds were very arrogant, at the beginning in this case they just assumed that since most popular games are in digital forms and played online only, GameStop has no future by selling physical copies and other game merchandises; and they've been closing stores over the past year due to the lockdown. They thought it must be on the brink of bankruptcy, which was a great opportunity to short. Somehow they as the big institutions didn't know that GameStop was worth more than they thought and it had a big customer base. It was still in decent shape, it was exploring online business and it got investment from Chewy. They either didn't know or they straight up ignored it. Second, shorting is a very risky move, because if the price goes up, it would cost them a fortune to cover their short position. The potential loss is limitless as the potential surge is limitless. In this case, it cost them tens of billions!
In summary, hedge funds got beat up in their own game. They had nobody but themselves to blame for screwing it up. But of course, they had to describe it as an "insurrection in the financial sector" to save face, and to collude with the brokers to save their asses. Robinhood shut down GME trading for one day, that gave them a precious time window to exit. This could've been a one off incident in the money market, but now they escalated the situation and turned it into a new populist movement. They've been exploiting the country for too long, they make the public to take the risk and they put all the gain in their pockets, it's about time for them to get a bloody nose. This is a pushback they deserve.
